Imagine this, you are about to get down and dirty with your second cousin just before one of your ballies come back from work and you get caught, literally, with your pants around your ankles. You’d think that’s bad timing, but if you had to compare it to the Volkswagen Passat Launch in New York, you nailed it to the T.
In case you live under a rock, Volkswagen used emission defecting software that altered results during the testing of their diesel models’ carbon emissions. Busted by the EPA last Friday, knowing this, surely you wouldn’t go ahead with throwing one of the biggest parties in New York to launch your brand new model. This quote from Jalopnik basically sums it all up:
At any big, flashy new car release, you expect to be accosted by public relations people all wearing name tags. “How do you like it?” they normally ask, or “Isn’t this exciting?” After I spent a few minutes milling around the entrance to the unveiling of the Volkswagen Passat last night, a security guard walked up to me. “Are you supposed to be here?”
All we can say is, grab a lekker big bag of popcorn, sit back and enjoy the cringeworthy apology from VW USA CEO Michael Horn to the clap of a single person and the lonely howl of a coyote in the Arizona desert.
