The joke goes that if the world suffers nuclear disaster the only survivors would be cockroaches and Keith Richards, the Rolling Stones lead guitarist who is renowned for his hard-living ways.
If the opening line of the trailer is anything to go by then perhaps we don’t know as much about the 71-year-old as we think we do. If you happen to have read his autobiography Life (and you really should, it’s a cracker) you’d be aware that he has eased up significantly since the excesses of the 70’s and 80’s, his love of music almost unrivalled. Variety reports:
Netflix releases the documentary on Sept. 18, a day after its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. The film follows Richards on the road during the creation of his first solo album in 23 years, “Crosseyed Heart,” and offers up interviews with his musical collaborators, who include Tom Waits and musician/ co-producers Steve Jordan and Waddy Wachtel.
The film includes a journey to Chicago — where Richards first encountered Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and Chess Records — and to Nashville, where Richards details his long love of country music.
This is one documentary we will definitely be watching, although we can’t say the same about dear Mick Jagger.
