The folks of Sandusky, Ohio are gearing up for a stellar 2016, the Cedar Point amusement park set to attract adrenaline junkies from around the world.
All the fuss centres on the Valravn Birdseye, the roller coaster set to open in May of next year. The ride measures in at just over a kilometre and will break 10 separate world records when operational.
First up is the fact that it will be the world’s longest ‘dive coaster’, defined on Newser as “the kind that gives riders that terrifying feeling of free-falling with at least one 90-degree drop”. It will also be the tallest (68 metres) and fastest (120km/h), with these the other seven:
• Most inversions on a dive coaster (three)
• Longest drop on a dive coaster (214 feet)
• Highest inversion on a dive coaster (165 feet)
• Most coasters taller than 200 feet at one park (5)
• Most rides at one park (72)
• Most steel roller coaster track at one park (9.9 miles)
• Most roller coaster track at one park (11.4 miles)
For now that virtual ride up top will have to do, complete with screaming noises and all.
