There may have been other candidates present, and they had their moments during last night’s second Republican debate (highlights from the first one HERE), but it was of course one man who stole the show again.
Trumpalicious was in fine form during the three-hour televised special, although his stiffest competition came from a rather unlikely source. Carly Fiorina, a somewhat unheralded and under the radar candidate, will be pretty pleased with herself after she came out on top in a few tasty duels.
Here’s the Washington Post with a few highlights from the night:
Fiorina, who hadn’t even been on the main stage for the August debate, jabbed Trump for his insults of her appearance, and for his record as a businessman. She pointed out that Trump had lost money in his famous Atlantic City casinos. “You ran up mountains of debt, as well as losses, using other people’s money,” Fiorina said. “Why should we trust you to manage the finances of this nation.”
Still, Trump dominated the night’s conversation — with other candidates often asked to react to things he’d said. He finished off in typical Trump fashion, promising in essence to give Americans more of everything they want.
“We will make this country greater than ever before. We’ll have more jobs. We’ll have more of everything,” Trump said in his closing statement.
I don’t know if I will ever get tired of Trump’s childlike insults, his go-to barbs being based on appearance and intelligence. I suppose it’s only a matter of time before he busts out the ‘my dad’s bigger than your dad’ line, we know he isn’t going to talk actual policy so it’s about all that is left.
