No one is debating the fact that if you run into a movie theatre during The Dark Knight Rises and open fire you’re, well, batshit crazy. James Holmes has since been sentenced to life in prison and authorities have released the until now unseen photos from both his house and the cinema in Aurora, Colorado.
The attack itself left 12 dead and it’s clear from the booby traps left in his apartment that Holmes was hell-bent on taking as many lives as possible. The video below, courtesy of People, was filmed with a robot:
The robot entered the apartment and photographed the scene, and a team of experts dismantled the devices over the period of two days…Police found incendiary devices, 10 gallons of gasoline and about 30 aerial shells used in commercial fireworks.
Here are some of those stills plus a few others:
Here’s the Guardian with a bit more about this sick, twisted bastard:
Holmes moved from California to Colorado in 2011 and entered a prestigious postgraduate neuroscience program at the University of Colorado, Denver. But he dropped out after a year; by that time, he was well into planning the attack and stockpiling ammunition. He rigged his apartment to explode on the night of the attack, hoping to divert first responders from the Aurora theater…
Holmes was formally sentenced to life in prison without parole in August, more than three years after he carefully planned and executed the merciless attack on hundreds of moviegoers who were watching a midnight Batman premiere.
Judge Carlos A Samour Jr had no other sentencing option after a jury earlier did not unanimously agree Holmes should get the death penalty. The judge issued his sentence after two days of testimony from survivors of the attack, including first responders.
I’m sure there were more than a few Americans hoping Holmes would meet an early demise at the hands of law enforcement. Still, I imagine life on the inside won’t exactly be plain sailing for him, they can take solace in that fact.
