When your school has hit the headlines for a video showing a teacher assaulting a pupil you would think that staff members would be on their best behaviour. If you were referring to Randfontein Secondary School you would be wrong, something the above video makes clear.
The West Rand school has come under fire once more after it is alleged that a teacher beat a student for failing to do his work. EWN reports:
The [Gauteng Department of Education] says it will be going back to the Randfontein Secondary School to investigate allegations of corporal punishment.
[Department spokesperson Phumla] Sekhonyane says the teacher implicated has to account for his actions.
“We will be going back to the school. Hopefully he will also help us with the video, because it will help us in the investigation. We will get the responsible educator to account and give us reasons why we should not take him through a disciplinary process.”
I remember getting the option back in the day to spend an hour in detention or get a backside klap with a cricket bat. I don’t remember seeing a single pupil take the detention option, but to be beaten with a belt or physically assaulted against your will is simply inexcusable.
