You know hipsters love to say how they heard about that band everyone’s talking about before they made it big? It’s so annoying, that really grinds our gears.
Well allow us to indulge ourselves for a second because it looks like we called this one pretty early. We’ve been talking up OurHood for a while now, the platform that connects neighbours in real time, and now national media has picked up on it. Like we said guys, we knew them before they blew up. Here’s News24:
[Bruce] Good, the managing director of OurHood, told News24 that while people have been using the likes of Facebook and WhatsApp for neighbourhood communication, both had their limitations.
“So we took the best of Facebook and WhatsApp and we created OurHood. There are examples of this working elsewhere in the world. It’s never been done here and we thought this is the best opportunity to create something for South Africans.”
We’ve long said that the best way to fight crime is for neighbourhoods to better communicate with one another, OurHood now providing the perfect platform to do just that. Back to News24:
One of the sections on OurHood specifically deals with crime. In combination with the alerts section, if a user in your neighbourhood posts something, such as being robbed, and presses send, the whole neighbourhood is immediately notified by SMS and e-mail.
“The beauty of that is you can share with people in real time,” Good said.
Well played gents, it’s always lekker to see the good guys cracking the big time. Head on over to OurHood and see what all the fuss is about, just remember you heard it here first.
