It often takes something truly jarring to jog us from our indifference and open our eyes to the injustices going on around us. The pictures of the drowned three-year-old have certainly done the trick, the truly heartbreaking father’s account another dagger to the heart.
Now the BBC have put together a gallery of photos that perfectly encapsulate the sense of desperation and despair many of these migrants face, the horrors they are up against when making the decision to risk their lives and flee abroad.
I’ll simply pull a selection of those and let you take it right in the feels. It’s worth noting that these photos have been taken over the past few years – the crisis might be worsening but the problem is not a new one.
