If you happen to be anywhere near Cape Town International Airport exercise some caution, a shooting having taken place earlier today at the BP service station where one exits the airport.
Whilst details remain scarce it has been confirmed that a robbery took place and two people have been shot. News24 reports:
Eyewitness Andie Morris [said] that she saw one person who appeared to be dead, and another seriously injured…
Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed to News24 that an “incident” was currently under way at the garage, and police were on the scene.
Cape Town International Airport spokesperson Deborah Francis told News24 that a robbery had taken place at the garage, but could give no further information.
The roads leading in and out of the airport remain open, although the garage itself has been cordoned off and closed down.
These images below were provided by Morris, with her account from News24:
“I heard this bang, but I thought it was a tyre that burst because it was really calm. Nothing seemed out of place. But when I looked behind me, I saw this man in a khaki uniform shooting at the car right next to me.
“And then I knew something big is wrong. I just ducked in my car. I have never been this afraid in my life”…
“From what I could see, one of the men shot was lying halfway in the car. I think he was definitely dead. A woman was lying on her side on the ground, but I am not sure if she was alive.”
Next thing, people were running between the cars. “The garage was quite busy at the time, so there was a lot of people running. And there were so many shots”…
“I still did not see a cash delivery vehicle, so I couldn’t understand what caused the shooting. I am not sure whether the people were stealing something, or whether it was a drug deal that went bad.”
