We know that since the ‘Luister’ documentary started doing the rounds Stellenbsoch University has been under the spotlight. Some idiot already ran his mouth last Friday and (we hope) will be suitably punished, but a video sent in by an anonymous reader moments ago shows that the anger is running deep.
What you see above follows classes at Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute being disrupted yesterday by EFF members who locked students out of classrooms.
Classes were resumed after midday when the Public Order Police cut the locks placed on doors by a group of around 20 EFF members. This from News24:
Third year student and EFF member Liphelo Mpumlwana said locking the classroom doors was a symbol of the students’ stance on the oppressive “Afrikaner” culture at the college.
“Today we decided to protest, part of it was locking the lecture halls. It was part of a signal of our [frustration] against the culture [here].”
She said the group of protesters was not violent and only reacted when provoked.
“We didn’t spit in their faces, we only responded to words that were said to us.”
It is obvious that tensions are high on campus and incidents like the video above will only serve to inflame anger in the Stellenbosch community. No one wants to see scenes such as these at an educational institution, although we fear it won’t be the last.
Now more footage has emerged of the incident, this below taken from News24, this time from outside the Elsenburg venue:
One reader sent us these two pictures below and asked if we see any resemblance. The top image shows one of those interviewed during the ‘Luister’ documentary, the second image is a still from THIS video (around the 1:25 mark). We’re not so sure but what do you guys think?
