A TV reporter and her cameraman were shot and killed in the middle of a live broadcast on a local CBS channel.
The incident occurred at a Virginian shopping and entertainment centre called Bridgewater Plaza. At the time the reporter, Alison Parker, was interviewing a woman from the local Chamber of Commerce and cameraman Adam Ward was filming. Below from the Washington Post:
…the two were on the scene, reporting live when “someone with a gun barged into where they were.” [A fellow reporter] said it is believed that the gunman fired six or seven shots.
“We heard screaming and then we heard nothing,” he said on air. “The camera fell”…
Ward’s fiancee also worked at the TV station and was in the control room when the shooting happened.
“She saw this happen,” Marks said. “It is hard to imagine.” He said it was the fiancee’s last day at the station because she was taking a job at another station in Charlotte, N.C. Ward was expected to follow her to that area.
The shooter remains at large and nothing is known about their motives.
