If you drive through the Sandton area at present you’re likely to hear disgruntled cries ringing out around the ‘burbs, their weekend plans destroyed after another monster bust at OR Tambo International Airport.
South African Revenue Service (SARS) Customs officers managed to get their paws on a shipment of 125,4 kilograms of liquid methamphetamine, carrying a street value of around R37,6 million. The bust took place on Monday night and followed a weekend of intensive efforts. Here’s TimesLive with more:
SARS spokesman Luther Lebelo said a baggage handler pushing a trolley with nine unclaimed bags had been asked to stop and have the bags scanned in the customs area. “This led to the discovery of nine green canisters containing a liquid substance.
“A SARS customs detector dog reaction indicated the possibility of narcotics‚ which a subsequent drug test confirmed to be methamphetamine in a liquid form. The liquid methamphetamine was handed over to South African Police Service (SAPS) organised crime unit for further investigation.”
But wait Sandton fiends, it gets worse. Also captured during the bust was 60 000 Viagra tablets – oh the horror. It seems impossible those swinging sex parties can go ahead this weekend if the greying philanderers can’t get their junk to stand to attention.
Here’s a little nugget to crush the hearts of the gym boets as well, just in case you were feeling a little left out:
…27 cargo pieces from Hong Kong were inspected and found to contain 2‚000 pairs of Nike sneakers and 1‚700 pairs of Timberland boots‚ suspected of being counterfeit.
Another shipment from Hong Kong was inspected at the SAA cargo shed and 220 Diesel jeans – suspected to be counterfeit – were discovered in three boxes…
On Saturday‚ customs officers performing an inspection at SAA cargo shed discovered 6‚000 pairs of Nike sneakers and 6‚200 pairs of Converse sneakers.
Jislaaik okes, you won’t be looking as slick post-workout now will you? Also found this past weekend was cargo containing cocaine, crystal meth, heroin and cannabis.
Perhaps a quiet weekend at home for certain areas in Jozi then.
