Eish, this is a subject that might touch a few nerves if breached, because just like teenagers, the older and considered wiser generations do the opposite of what they’re told.
But this isn’t a warning against health issues – but rather ones of safety.
A recent report warned high levels of consumption of alcohol are dangerous as they may cause falls and confusion. Apparently, doctors are less attuned to high consumptions of alcohol among the elderly so cannot be relied upon to warn their patients and instead look out for signs of being an alcoholic in younger patients.
Of the 9,248 people who reported drinking alcohol, 21% drank more than the safe recommended limits. The people in question were over the age of 65 and from the UK. 60% were male and they made up 65% of those who were considered unsafe drinkers. An unsafe drinker is either a male who drinks over 21 units a week and a female who drinks over 14 units (49 units = bottle of whiskey).
That’s pretty much three tots a day for men, and two a day for women. Good luck bringing that up at the next Sunday lunch when the wine disappears too quickly.
