When you’re travelling at excessive speeds it doesn’t take much to throw you off course and cause you to lose control of your vehicle. The nose section of someone else’s vehicle, a very heavy part of the car designed to keep the front section grounded, definitely did the trick for IndyCar driver Justin Wilson.
That video above shows the crash in its entirety, although the best footage occurs around the 1:10 mark.
Wilson was competing in the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway when a piece of fellow driver Sage Karam’s car struck his vehicle. USA Today with IndyCar’s official statement below:
Wilson sustained a severe head injury during today’s event…Wilson is currently in a coma and in critical condition while undergoing further evaluation at Lehigh Valley Health Network Cedar Crest Hospital in Allentown, Pa.
The accident happened on the 179th lap out of 200 and left many drivers visibly shaken. Wilson remains in critical condition and is still receiving treatment to determine the extent of his injuries.
