And now, let’s bring it home.
According to htxt.africa, South Africans have been active on the ever controversial Ashley Madison site for around seven years. During this period, they have spent a whopping quarter of a billion rand – some users spending up to R300 000.
A further breakdown revealed that 615 registered users registered government e-mail addresses in their transactions. Of these, five South African government officials regularly made payments and were recently active.
One of them was a police officer.
There are 172 e-mails registered to Eskom, 65 to the justice department and 158 associated with SA universities, according to Reddit.
Although names have not been released, there are vets, doctors and government officials, while some were more sneaky with their data using a moniker. Although the payments made on the site were predominantly made be the male species – with around seven paid transactions per user – this is only because women are allowed to send and receive messages for free.
Slowly, those interested are sifting through the 9.7 gigs of raw data to get to the juice.
And we’ll be watching.
