If you’re looking for a connection between sex and money this banknote from the Seychelles might be of interest to you.
A 50 Rupee Seychelles note (about R50) will go on auction in England this October, and it might fetch over R4 000 after someone snuck a message hidden in palm trees. Auctioneer Timothy Medhurst believes it is a collectable thanks to its crafty wording. The BBC reports:
He said some believe the word was added as the Seychelles was trying to gain independence from Britain…
Mr Medhurst said: “This is a very collectable item for obvious reasons.
“Amazingly the added message wasn’t noticed, or was perhaps never mentioned, until after it stopped being printed.
The notes were printed between 1968 and 1973, with others rumoured to have the word ‘scum’ hidden in their printing. Here’s Medhurst once more:
“Many think the engraver Brian Fox of Bradbury & Wilkinson, the printers, put it in.
“It is an otherwise attractive note but would have disappeared into obscurity if it had not been for its secret message.”
It looks like someone wasn’t all that big a fan of the monarchy then. No word on whether Prince Harry is considering putting in a bid for the sordid sex note just yet.
