Bangkok was rocked yesterday by a bomb that exploded close to a shrine, a popular tourist spot in the central Chidlom district of the Thai capital. So far 21 people are believed dead and around 120 injured in the blast.
As of yet no one has claimed responsibility for the attack although police are currently investigating one suspect identified from security footage at the Erawan Hindu shrine. Up top you can see some dashcam footage of the blast, whilst below is CCTV footage from a nearby street.
The BBC reports below:
“This is the worst incident that has ever happened in Thailand,” [Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha] said.
“There have been minor bombs or just noise, but this time they aim for innocent lives. They want to destroy our economy, our tourism”…
…the bomb was clearly placed to cause maximum casualties, and that Thailand is experiencing a profound sense of shock that this could happen in the heart of their capital…
National police chief Somyot Poompummuang earlier described the device as a “pipe bomb” and said it had been placed inside the shrine. Reports said 3kg of TNT had been used in the bomb.
“Whoever planted this bomb is cruel and aimed to kill. Planting a bomb there means they want to see a lot of people dead,” he said.
The manhunt is well and truly on so hopefully we will see some movement on this and the perpetrators can be brought to justice.
