The Mandela name hasn’t been covered in glory of late, what with Zondwa having dragged it through the mud with his antics at the Pamodzi Gold Mine.

Now the Mandelas are once again in the news and this time it’s Nelson’s 15-year-old grandson, arrested for an alleged rape in Johannesburg. The incident is said to have taken place last Friday at a popular restaurant in Greenside. TimesLive reports:

According to the girl’s family spokesperson…the teen went to the toilet when Mandela’s grandson, who can’t be named before he appears in court, grabbed her and raped her inside one of the toilets.

The father of the victim then attempted to open a criminal case but came up against some underhanded opposition:

[He] was intimidated by Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s bodyguard.

Madikizela-Mandela apparently asked the girl’s family to give her family time to deal with the issue.

“Instead, Winnie’s bodyguard went to the family pretending to be a cop,” said the girl’s family spokesperson.

“The father was told there was no need to arrest the suspect but when the father asked to see his badge, he didn’t have one. It turned out he had been sent by Winnie,”

“Just because they have a famous surname, they think they can get away with crime,” he said.

Despite the best efforts of a deviant grandparent a case of rape was opened on Friday, with the 15-year-old set to appear in court today.
