And this time, it’s nothing less than the September issue. And Vogue’s September issue is the golden goose of the entire fashion magazine gander.
Think about it, the northern summer sun is about to set for the final tim, signalling the seasonal shift from spring/summer to autumn/winter. Vogue’s September issue is not only the bulkiest, but is packed with the latest and greatest in fashion – through editorials as well as adverts. Apparently it’s because in the north, women view September as the time to change and the time to re-invent themselves – an idea that has been ingrained from childhood, when shopping for new clothes around ‘back-to-school’ season would be a chance to be someone new.
This is Queen Bey’s third feature on the cover of the mag – and she marks the third black woman, preceded by Naomi Campbell in 1989 and Halle Berry in 2010.
The spread features every curve of the vivacious Beyoncé and she can be seen wearing Marc Jocob’s on the cover – breaking another record being the only designer to be on the cover of Vogue two issues in a row. Beyoncé can also be seen wearing Stella McCartney and Atelier Versace inside the mag which hits shelves 25 August – but can be found in Targets and online now.
Marc Jacobs told the magazine:
The word diva is used for so many female performers, and it often means they have reputations for being difficult, but she exudes charm and a lovable quality.”
To accompany the issue, Vogue released a behind-the-scenes video, below, of the cover shoot, set to Édith Piaf’s “Autumn Leaves”. The vid can be found along side on a special page dedicated to the powerhouse that B on their website.
Beyoncé is a powerhouse. She can sneer. She can out-strut and stare down any man in the film frame. Call her, in the songs, She Who Must Be Obeyed—in the palace, in the bedroom, in the hood, on the road, and on the runway. The most powerful thing about her persona is the unabashed pleasure she takes in her own body: its beauty, its power, its versatility.
