I’m tempted to say if you’re living in Sandton and using meth you’re doing it wrong, but that would be socially irresponsible and we would never dream of such a thing.
Over R2 million worth of ephedrine, used in the production of crystal meth, was discovered hidden in ironing boards at Jozi’s OR Tambo International Airport mail centre on Wednesday. The seizure is actually the second in consecutive days meaning there might be something of a shortage around town. TimesLive reporting on the South African Revenue Service’s statement on the matter:
While conducting random inspections at the mail centre‚ a Customs officer spotted a parcel coming from India declared as ironing boards. Importation of ironing boards through the mail raised her suspicion and the officer decided to check the parcel thoroughly.
“When she opened the parcel‚ she noticed that the ironing boards trimmings were tampered with and she cut the bottom lining open. Each ironing board contained a packet of ephedrine (Crystal Meth)”…
“SARS will continue to work with other law enforcement agencies to protect the country and its citizens by disrupting organised crime and reducing illicit trade activities”.
The drugs weighed in at around seven kilograms and would have fetched around R2.1 million on the street.
I did once read somewhere that some meth users feel an irresistible urge to clean their houses while high as kites. I’ve yet to hear about that translating to ironing.
Buckle up Sandton.
