Happy Women’s Month everyone, here’s former Jozi FM DJ Donald Sebolai with a heartfelt message of appreciation for all you XX-chromosoned people out there.
Wait, what’s that now? My bad, he’s actually saying that it’s OK to knock around your girlfriend to ‘get her in line’. The woman in question is his deceased girlfriend Dolly Tshabalala, whom Donald admits to assaulting several times. When he was questioned about these comments by prosecutor Elize le Roux, during his trial for Tshabalala’s murder, he went on to elaborate. News24 reports:
“I think you are misunderstanding me. You think I am speaking about a hard slap that will leave an injury or bruising. It does not have to be hard,” he said…
Judge Cassim Moosa attempted to get clarity from the DJ and asked whether he had heard Sebolai correctly. “Yes… Just a little [slap],” he replied…
“How I wish you were there to see what I am talking about. That is why there is no case against me [in terms of] ever assaulting Dolly,” he said.
Tshabalala was found dead last June in the DJ’s flat, apparently lying in a pool of blood on his bed caused by a stab wound. Donald claims she was stabbed following a tussle involving a steak knife, Tshabalala accusing him of cheating and stabbing him on his fingers.
The case will resume in court today and, whilst it’s innocent until proven guilty, I think Donald has sown his own fate on the charges of being a misogynistic spouse abuser.
