There’s something about sharks that just seems to capture people’s attention, our post yesterday on a mammoth found in Oz generating quite the buzz.
Now you might remember back in June when this video did the rounds, a shark called Deep Blue getting up close and personal with Mauricio Hoyos Padilla, director-general of the nonprofit marine research organization Pelagios-Kakunjá. That’s him nudging the shark’s pectoral fin as it cruises past, making him one rather brave gentleman.
Now another encounter has been filmed, again off the western coast of Mexico, with this below from Huffington Post:
She’s estimated to be around 20 feet long, as wide as a small elephant — which likely indicates pregnancy — and at least 50 years old…

Hoyos Padilla also posted this additional information about the mammoth shark.
I guess when you’ve made it all the way to 50 you deserve to live out your days in peace, especially when you’re carrying shark pups. Hopefully there’s a steady supply of seals nearby to keep her well fed, no one wants a hungry mother shark swimming too close.
