Whoop, those crazy mofos who are on a mission to conquer Mars have reasons to celebrate – they will now be able to possibly eat freshly grown greens on the red planet.
Yesterday, the first batch of freshly grown lettuce was enjoyed by the astronauts on board the International Space Station. Red romaine lettuces were nurtured over 30 days from seeds under coloured lights in a special pod.
After harvesting the leaves with a pair of tongs, US astronaut Dr Kjell Lindgren said, “That’s awesome.”
Olive oil and balsamic vinegar was aptly applied to the fresh dish and apparently it tasted a bit like rocket.
Some leaves were saved for Russian cosmonauts Mikhail Kornienko and Gennady Padalka, who were outside on a casual spacewalk.
