At some point or another, we’ve all wanted what someone else has. No-one is immune to the green-eyed monster. Most of us, however, have the common sense not spread it all over the internet.
This was unfortunately not the case for Fatuma Phiri, who made the unwise move of posting pictures to Facebook showing her wearing a selection of her employer’s clothes, which she’d ‘borrowed’ without permission.
This from IOL:
Her Sandton employer got a big shock when she was casually scrolling through the “People You May Know” section on Facebook.
She saw a face which looked very familiar, but didn’t recognise the name. She then became curious and decided to check out the profile.
To her horror, she discovered it was her part-time domestic helper posing brazenly in a number of her clothes, including her wedding dress.
Phiri took snaps both in her employer’s Sandton home and at her own place in Tembisa, which explained why items had been systematically disappearing from her closet.
I feel so violated. I cannot even look at my wedding dress anymore. Some of the buttons are now broken as she tried to force the dress on. This is the dress in which I took sacred vows before God,” she said.
Phiri certainly violated her trust, particularly as the family had been paying for her to take skills based courses – but I’m not sure how trying on her wedding dress affects her vows to God. In any case, charges were brought and then dropped, and Phiri was dismissed.
