The Kenyan people gave President Obama a warm welcome on his state visit a few days back. (If you haven’t already seen his cracking dance moves you can check ’em HERE.)
The government rolled out all the stops, beautifying the capital ahead of the leader’s arrival. However some rather embarrassing footage has now emerged, showing workers removing recently planted grass along the Uhuru highway.
As Tuko reports, Governor Evans Kidero defended the video by saying:
“Please take note that NO ONE is uprooting Kidero Grass. The appointed contractor is restoring the ground in order to do the proper planting. Kidero Grass is well on course, the quality of grass selected takes time to grow!” he posted on his Facebook page.
So essentially, they did a speed job before doing it again ‘properly’. Not fishy at all. This was all part of a sizeable investment in improving the city landscape:
Nairobi county committee on Budget and Appropriations had set aside KSH 40 million to beautify the capital city ahead of President Obama’s visit but insisted that the project was in place even before the trip was confirmed.
The amount was to cover the costs for planting trees, flowers and road maintenance from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Westlands.
It’s not clear how much of this El Presidente got to enjoy on his recent visit, but hopefully the Kenyans will see the results at some point or another.
