You won’t hear many tales of someone falling 17 storeys and surviving to tell the tale, which is why 23-year-old Chilean Sebastian Reyes can count himself very fortunate.
Reyes fell off a residential building in the city of Rancagua and landed on the roof of a parking unit before falling to the ground. Security cameras managed to capture his remarkably good fortune on film with this below from ABC:
His condition was initially listed as critical but he has been released by the Rancgua Regional Hospital with fractures in his pelvis and femur. The haunting images from the fall were caught by CCTV cameras at the Torres de Alameda building complex.
Mr Reyes told local media he does not remember anything after falling.
“I felt the fall, but nothing else, and I didn’t wake up. I woke up in the hospital,” he said.

Reyes fell a total of 40 metres and may have been helped by having a few drinks in his system to ease the pain. He had been out all night celebrating a Chilean victory in the Copa Americqa football tournament, only returning home from a club at around 6:30AM.
I suppose you could argue that he may not have fallen if he had enjoyed a quiet night in watching telly. For now, however, let’s just say it’s a classic case of alcohol saving the day.
