If you’ve been following the story of the tragic shooting of Cecil the Lion, one of Hwange National Park’s most beloved beasts, you will have been infuriated by the actions of the American dentist who illegally hunted and killed the animal.
We touched briefly on that story HERE but that was before the identity of Walter Palmer was made public. As you can imagine in the wake of his name spreading like wildfire the repercussions have been rapid, internet users flooding his Facebook and even heading to his dental practice to show their disgust.
Turns out ‘ol Walter likes himself a bit of a hunt, yes sir, with these photos emerging of the rather Putinesque dentist on previous hunts:
As you can imagine Twitter wasn’t very forgiving and Palmer might want to think twice about stepping out late at night to grab some milk for brekkie in the morning…
The Facebook page of his dental practice, since pulled down, was torn apart by angry people saying nasty things…
Then there’s the rapidly growing petition that demands justice for the slain lion, calling on Robert Mugabe to speak out and pressing Zimbabwe to stop issuing hunting permits. Whilst Mugabe has remained mum on the matter the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority released this statement, with this below from Mashable:
“In this case,” the statement read, “both the professional hunter and land owner had no permit or quota to justify the offtake of the lion and therefore are liable for the illegal hunt.”
So have we heard from Palmer on the matter? Through a spokesman this garbage was uttered:
In a statement issued Tuesday amid an uproar over the killing, Palmer said he thought “everything about this trip was legal and properly handled and conducted.”
He added that he “had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favorite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt.”
Sure you did buddy, and drivel like that above is the reason why your practice is set to ground to a halt. Ready your bows and arrows folks, the hunt is on.
