It seems Sean Penn likes to cause a stir when he comes to Cape Town. Last time he was here shooting a movie, he was getting upset with Charlize for rejecting a marriage proposal. Now he’s back (and single), and causing controversy with a rather unusual casting call, for which he is paying the big bucks – a whopping R1500 a day.
Penn is reshooting scenes for The Last Face, for which he apparently needs a one-day-old baby, as Channel24 reports:
The casting call was for a black pregnant woman about to give birth; only the baby would be needed for the scenes while the mother would be allowed on set. Pay was set at R1500 a day.
It seems Penn’s production is capitalising on our lax laws, as it’s illegal to film a baby under 15 days old in the US. Whilst there are plenty of pushy showbiz mothers out there, surely the only motivation to accept this job would be financial desperation, therefore making it a tad difficult to swallow.
Do you think it’s morally sound?
