Oi you, yes you, over there in the corner trying to make this day go quicker. How about a movie focusing on retro video game culture? Hell yeah!
Can you remember when back in the day the coolest thing to do was hang out at the arcade, running away from ghosts on Pac-Man, jumping Donkey Kong’s barrels, blistering your hands on joysticks and desperate to see your name up in lights on the scoreboard of your favorite game?
Now imagine the iconic stars of those games wrapped up in a 3D movie full of retro 1980’s nostalgia and what you get is the awesome PIXELS Movie.
In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (Kevin James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet.
Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan), a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens.
Pixels falls like a Tetris block safely into the category of iconic comedy adventures, so if you’re looking to immerse yourself in the wonderful world that Atari and Nintendo created back in the day then book your tickets now.
Pixels hits cinemas July 24 nationwide and if you book your tickets on www.numet.ro/pixels you get a R100 takealot voucher to spend on purchases over R250.
Game On!
