It is no coincidence that it’s fallen to the foreigner to write this story, as the 2ov locals have told me they’d struggle to get beyond expletives.
As the findings of yesterday’s Nkandla MP and media inspections come to light, we are treated to a galling series of photos showing just how well that R200 million has been spent, alongside unanimous condemnation from the ANC and the DA.
Let’s start with the ANC, as Cedric Frolick tells News24:
What I’ve seen there today is not worth the 200 plus million rand that is claimed to be spent and the people responsible for that must be held accountable… in line with the SIU [Special Investigating Unit] report.”
DA leader Mmusi Maimane goes into more detail, as reported by the Mail & Guardian:
There is direct causality between the escalation of the scope of Nkandla and Jacob Zuma’s occupation of the office of the president. Everything we have seen today reinforces our stance that President Zuma clearly unduly benefited, as the public protector found. The report erroneously produced by the police minister must summarily be rejected on the grounds that it is both irrational and at odds with the Constitution.”

Meanwhile, some cracking photos from the media visit:
According to ENCA, 21 houses built to accommodate police remain vacant, while some have been vandalised.
And some more gems from EWN’s Twitter account:
Meanwhile, ANC supporters had a good old singalong about penises…

So, there we have it, condemnation from all sides. But surely the President’s lackeys could have predicted this outcome?! Zuma has yet to respond to the widespread criticism – one imagines it’ll take his team of spin doctors a while to come up with something even remotely plausible.
