After a good shuffle around Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla homestead, complete with ANC supporters singing songs outside about Mmusi Maimane’s undercarriage, the ad hoc committee has gathered to review what they saw.
In the midst of this review one letter has come to light that is pretty damning for el Presidente, a document that shows the president gave a direct order for the police chalets to be built. This is in direct contrast to the ignorance he has constantly maintained on the matter, and shows he may have known just a little more about these upgrades than he initially let on. That letter below from News24:
The bit you’re going to want to look closely at is labelled A.2, clearly showing the upgrades were carried out at his behest.
Of course it is also the remarkably poor workmanship visible around Nkandla that is also under fire. A few quotes below to illustrate our politicians venting during the ongoing ad hoc committee:
The DA’s James Selfe says Wednesday’s visit shows that South African taxpayers were robbed. [He] says the so-called “fire pool” looks like any other normal swimming pool. The pool cost about R3m.
During the visit on Wednesday, it also emerged that the 21 two-bedroom SANDF houses located outside the perimeter of the property were dirty and unfurnished. The houses cost R6m each or R135.2m in total.
Selfe: From our observation the figures are wrong or someone made a whopping amount of money.
This will not be the last we hear on the matter, that is one thing we can bank on.
In the mean time Zuma’s speech writers must be going into overdrive spinning this one into a situation that doesn’t end with further egg on face.
