As with most news stories, once the dust has settled the internet takes over and hilarity ensues.

Despite being clearly shaken over yesterday’s attack Mick Fanning emerged unscathed to tell his story, including punching the shark in the back to discourage it from attacking further. The meme magicians quickly went into overdrive and had their way with Photoshop. You can see our favourite efforts below courtesy of the Guardian:

We should all just be thankful that Fanning managed to walk away unscathed, both for his sake and those who love to indulge in a bit of meme-making. This story could easily have had a different ending and making jokes at Fanning’s expense would have had carried far more sinister undertones.
