News broke yesterday of another tragic shooting in the U.S., this time in a Tennessee town called Chattanooga which saw four marines killed and at least one police officer wounded. The shooting, which took place at multiple locations, ended with gunman Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez dying in a shootout with police.
Of course in the wake of such shootings there is an immediate scrabble for information on the gunman and this case is no different. It has come to light that the 24-year-old shooter was a U.S. citizen born in Kuwait who attended both high school and college in the area. Below is his now chilling yearbook photo:
Mohammad was also a mixed martial artist with these the highlights from his first sanctioned bout back in 2009.
Whilst it appears that the FBI have admitted that Mohammad was not on their radar his father had been the focus of an earlier investigation. Gawker reports:
The gunman was not on the government’s radar, but law enforcement officials said that Mr. Abdulazeez’s father had been under investigation several years ago for possible ties to a foreign terrorist organization. At one point, a law enforcement official said that the father was on a terrorist watch list and was questioned while on a trip abroad but that he was eventually removed from the list.
Sadly it appears they may have missed the boat on this one with some disastrous consequences, the U.S. once again playing host to a chilling attack.
