Just when you think you have heard it all in the Bill Cosby saga something comes along that still manages to surprise.
One of the women accusing Bill Cosby of rape has laid bare the details of her assault and it is another in a long line of stinging attacks on the methods he used to prey on his unsuspecting victims.
The woman, known simply as Patricia, says she was drugged twice in the 1970s when she was an aspiring singer. Her account of the first incident, taking place at the Cosby family home in Massachusetts, is as follows courtesy of CNN:
She said Cosby gave her a drink. Halfway through that one drink, she said, she started to lose her balance and slur her words.
And the next thing she was aware of, she said, was waking up naked in a bed, with Cosby standing over her, wearing a bathrobe.
He told her she had thrown up and passed out, she said. When she asked where her dress was, Cosby said he’d had to wash it, she said.
“To my knowledge, I’m the only person who’s accounted for an episode that took place in his family home, in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, where he raised his family …” Patricia said. “Whether it was with Camille’s knowledge or not, I don’t know,” she added, in a reference to Cosby’s wife.
The second incident took place in New Jersey when she was invited to Cosby’s penthouse suite and told she would be refused entry unless she took two pills he held in his hand. Cosby claimed they were just to help her relax:
“I said OK because I wanted to spend time with this man who was offering to help me with my career,” Patricia said. Thirty minutes later, according to her account, she lost consciousness and did not come to until the next morning. She was “naked, and I felt like somebody had penetrated me,” she told CNN.
Patricia acknowledged that she did not go to authorities at the time. “People didn’t challenge powerful men in 1978, 1979 or 1980,” she said. “They just didn’t.”
So, about that royal she was asked to emulate then. Patricia claims that Cosby had an obsession with Queen Noor of Jordan:
Before meeting her in Atlantic City, Cosby asked her to fix her hair the way Noor did, she said, adding that she had heard similar stories from others among Cosby’s accusers.
Not that we needed more ammunition against Bill, but stories such as these make it all the more aggravating that he isn’t holed up in a room somewhere being grilled by investigators. How many more women must come forward with stories like Patricia, and what kind of a message is being sent out to would-be rapists about the lack of repercussions for their heinous actions?
