It seems Donald Trump is trying to drum up support for his presidential campaign by pandering to the American public. A tweet sent out on Tuesday seemed about as ‘Merican as they come – the flag, the Trump, the White House and the brave men and women who serve their country.
I’m rather surprised there wasn’t a bald eagle carrying a firework during the Fourth of July celebrations but Donald isn’t mucking about with his #makeamericagreat campaign.
There was, however, one part of the puzzle that the internet sleuths were quick to pounce upon. The Guardian reports:
Though the soldiers Photoshopped behind a red stripe of the American flag would seem to be members of the country’s armed forces, the soldiers actually have the SS eagle insignia on their arms. At least one of the troops is wearing the dot camouflage print associated with Nazis.
After the rather disturbing truth came to light Trump deleted the tweet, blaming a ‘young intern’ for the error. This from EOnline:
“Mr. Trump has been in Charlottesville, Virginia all day at the opening of a development. A young intern created and posted the image and did not see the very faded figures within the flag of the stock photo,” the statement read. “The intern apologized (sic) and immediately deleted the tweet.”
I suppose that intern will certainly be remembered around the office, way to make an impression. How did the drama affect Trump’s popularity then? Not very much at all, with one poll putting him as the front runner for the Republican nomination.
If you thought eight years of George W. Bush was entertaining you ain’t seen nothing yet.
