Last week we brought you the story of the leopard in the Kruger National Park that attacked a guide and was then put down after it sustained injuries from being driven over. All we had to go on then were a few grainy pictures but now some footage paints a far clearer picture.
38-year-old Curtis Plumb was showing six tourists the park when a leopard attacked him, grabbing hold of his arm and causing deep lacerations. Below from Lowvelder:
Reports from park officials and eye witnesses stated that the guide was trying to herd the leopard for the benefit of his quests (sic), for clearer view.
KNP spokesman Ms Laura Mukhwevho, added that the animal was put down by rangers. She added that the animal was estimated to have been between 16 and 18 years old. She confirmed that, although the animal had injuries from fighting with another leopard, it was run over by the front wheel Plumb’s open safari vehicle.
As you can see from the video above, Plumb tried pretty hard to escape the attention of the leopard before running over it with his vehicle, although if the allegations of ‘herding’ the animal so that guests could get a better view are true he might find sympathy hard to come by
