Instagram has long been criticised for its double standards when it comes to the humble nipple, outlawing the female version whilst doing little to clamp down on overt displays of the male nip.
They might have relaxed their breastfeeding rules (not that it stops mothers coming under fire) but the social media site is still quick to take down those ladies who show just a little too much skin for the site’s liking.
In order to bypass these archaic regulations, a template was created by artist Micol Hebron where some clever cut and paste skills could solve the problem. That template below from Mashable:
This handy tool has led to a resurgence in the #freethenipple campaign:
…women are choosing to beat Instagram at its own game: by Photoshopping male nipples over their breasts to make them “acceptable” on social media.
You may not be able to tell the difference between a male and female nipple, but Instagram and Facebook apparently can. Only genuine male nips allowed in these parts, ladies.
Here are some of the more daring examples:
For the record the site’s current rules stipulate that female nipples are not allowed unless being used to breastfeed or to show post-mastectomy scarring.
In short it would appear that all nipples are not created equal and, should women wish to show theirs off, they will need either a baby in tow or proof of an operation having taken place. If that sounds fair to you then you might be what we like to call around these parts a complete tit.
