I can’t say I see much fun in hooking a shark and trying to reel it in – after all, when the shoe is on the other foot we’re not the most forgiving bunch.
This gent in Florida (who clearly disagrees) was out on a fishing charter when he had a pretty decent bite and, as you can see, his kayak is ill-equipped to deal with the battle on his hands. It remains unclear what species of shark Ben Chancey managed to hook but it was powerful enough to yank him from his kayak, causing the panicked angler to swim for the safety of a nearby boat.
Now we know the shark doesn’t look like it would pose much of a threat to Chancey but let’s be honest – if you fall into the water alongside an animal you’ve been battling, you’re going to have something of a turtle head poking out the back of your trunks, that much is human nature.
Perhaps he should just be glad there weren’t any of THESE in the vicinity, the outcome may have been very different.
