The Great White Shark has been in the news an awful amount this past week, what with two attacks having occurred along the Garden Route and some footage emerging of a surfer’s close encounter with a rather large specimen.
Now another video has come to light of a very close encounter with a shark off Mossel Bay (Mosselbaai depending on who you ask), one diver being driven to screams as the fortitude of the cage was tested by a sharp set of teeth. Here’s Hillary Rae’s description on her YouTube channel:
While shark cage diving, our cage was attacked by an 11.5 foot [3.5 metres, not very large really] Great White shark. The round buoy attached to the side of the cage was bent in half. Some of the lining of the outside blue barrier bar was bitten through as well. It was quite the up close and personal experience!
This was a trip I went on during one of my days off from volunteering at Cango Wildlife Ranch….The shark was even closer than he appears. I apologize (sic) for the shakiness.
I think we’ll let you off the hook there Hillary, I don’t imagine many of us would have been able to hold in a shriek if faced with such a scenario.
