Elon Musk is the kind of guy who, once he puts his mind to something, is not likely to be swayed by failure. That’s a good thing too, considering how unsuccessful his attempts at landing a Space X Falcon rocket on an ocean platform have proven thus far.
We brought you the story back in April of his third unsuccessful attempt off the coast of Florida, the booster rocket bursting into flames after tipping over in the rough sea conditions. Now video footage has been released of the failed landing and it’s clear there is still much work to be done. This from TIME:
…this video comes from a tracking camera that followed the first stage Falcon 9, or the part of the rocket that detaches from the cargo vessel bound for the International Space Station, according to SpaceX. A rocket’s first stage normally falls back into the ocean — a harmless but expensive loss. If the Falcon 9 could land successfully, it would mark a huge step towards SpaceX’s goal of more efficient spaceflight.
True to his word, Musk isn’t throwing in the towel with the next attempt set for Sunday. Musk will be hoping the sea is less choppy and he can avoid another very costly mistake.
