You read that bit yesterday about the new hoverbike didn’t you? Those bad boys are set to change the game for the US Army but what about the rest of us adult children?
Lexus look they might be on the brink of something rather big and have released a teaser video that is generating some serious buzz online. In fact they are claiming that their hoverboard works and only have one stipulation – it must be used in a controlled environment. USA Today reports:
Lexus said the test hoverboard in its “Amazing in Motion” campaign generates magnetic levitation by combining the effects of liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets.
In the commercial, it appears to be levitating above concrete. But that’s because there are magnets underneath the surface.
Unfortunately this remains the closest anyone has come to emulating the famous Marty McFly hoverboards from the Back to the Future series. Lexus aren’t finished though, with executive VP Mark Templin releasing this statement:
At Lexus, we constantly challenge ourselves and our partners to push the boundaries of what is possible. That determination, combined with our passion and expertise for design and innovation, is what led us to take on the Hoverboard project. It’s the perfect example of the amazing things that can be achieved when you combine technology, design and imagination.
Less talking, more hovercrafting. You can get another glimpse of the board in action HERE as it floats around in a circle unmanned.
