Well at least one Zuma will have to pay back the money – sometimes you have to take your victories where you can get them.
The high court in Pretoria has ordered Aurora directors Khulubuse Zuma [above] and Zondwa Mandela to pay up for their mismanagement of the Pamodzi Gold Mine. The mine was forced to close in 2011 due to the reckless behaviour of the directors. EWN reports:
The Judge said there is no doubt that the directors are guilty of willful misrepresentation…
Zuma however, was not part of the bid process to take over the mine, but is liable for reckless managing of the mine from 2009.
Trade Union Solidarity said today’s judgment is a victory for workers. All directors will have to pay millions of rands in their personal capacity.
It is unclear just how large the fines will be but I’m sure both will have no problem dipping into the family trust to help pay their way out of this mess.
It’s a pity my uncle or grandfather never made it big in politics, I think I would have liked my own mine to play around with.
