Another day, another breastfeeding picture drama.
It isn’t that we’re unsympathetic, you see, it’s just the fact that people keep getting up in arms about these photos is becoming rather tiresome. Newsflash angry mob – chances are at one stage or another you found yourself sucking on a nipple for sustenance, this is the circle of life you see.
Tamara Ecclestone, daughter of Formula One mogul Bernie, shared some holiday snaps of herself and her one-year-old daughter Sophia in the Bahamas. We’ll start with the pictures and deal with the backlash afterwards, courtesy of the Daily Mail:
Some users slammed her for oversharing, telling her the images were ‘gross’ and that there was ‘no need’ for her to post pictures of her ‘t*** hanging out.’
…mother-of-two Martel Maxwell said she felt the pictures of Tamara looking effortlessly glamorous breastfeeding makes other mothers feel inadequate.
She said: ‘I am a huge fan of breastfeeding but I think the brelfie is a step too far and oversharing. A lot of women I speak to have struggled to breastfeed, maybe showing how hard it is would be more help to women.’
[Tamara said] “my husband took the picture. I loved it, I thought it was so cute… I didn’t realise it was going to cause so much controversy and that people would have so many opinions on it.
I just thought it was a beautiful photograph of the person I love so much. We were on holiday and it was a special moment, that was the only reason to share that picture.”
What do I think? I’ll speak in my own capacity here and say these people who are offended by pictures such as these need to get a life. Are they sitting next to her on the beach and forced to watch firsthand as a baby clings to her breast and feeds? No, it’s a bloody Instagram picture, if you don’t like it click ‘unfollow’ and take your sensitivities elsewhere.
Rant done.
