There’s a lot to be said for receiving a warm greeting on your way into the bar, something those who frequented Long Street’s Beerhouse will know all about. One of their doormen, 32-year-old Joe Louis Kazadi Kanyona, was stabbed to death on Saturday night in an attack that has left owners shocked and saddened.
It is believed he was standing in his regular position at the door when unknown suspects attacked him. Beerhouse had this to say, as quoted on News24:
Joe, as he was affectionately known by staff at Beerhouse, was a much-loved colleague and friend, and although he worked in the security environment he had a gentle soul, friendly demeanour and ready smile.
A Western Cape police spokesperson said that they had arrived to find Joe with a stab wound to the neck, with the Congolese national eventually succumbing to his wounds. Beerhouse extended its condolences to Joe and his family, as well as pledging to donate all of Monday’s proceeds to his family.
