KFC is once again front and centre on social media after a rather disturbing image began doing the rounds. The picture, shared by a customer in California called Devorise Dixon, allegedly shows a rat that has been deep-fried in the Colonel’s finest batter…tail and all.
For a quick trip down memory lane you might want to look at how our local KFC outlets haven’t exactly been covering themselves in glory (HERE and HERE).
OK, back to the matter at hand. Below is the picture as Dixon published on his Facebook page:
Now KFC have come out and said the above is simply a scrumptious piece of chicken with a healthy dose of batter. This from ABC:
KFC told ABC News it “has made various attempts to contact this customer, but he is refusing to talk to us directly or through an attorney. Our chicken tenders often vary in size and shape, and we currently have no evidence to support this allegation.” The chain went on to say that other photos posted by Dixon “clearly” show “it’s a piece of hand-breaded white meat chicken.”
KFC further said that Dixon has refused to cooperate in an investigation or allow an independent lab to evaluate the product at KFC’s expense.
My guess is that Dixon is lining up a monster lawsuit and wants to get his ducks in a row before he lets KFC come meddling. In his original Facebook post Dixon claims the manager at the outlet admitted he had been served a rat and apologised for the incident, something else that KFC claims cannot be verified.
Lame pun time? Whilst this is another poultry effort in damage control by the folks at KFC, I do smell a rat at how Dixon seems to have gone into hiding – come now, you’re batter than that.
