I think it’s best to exercise caution when playing pranks on airlines, especially in America where the TSA and the FBI have a notoriously poor sense of humour when it comes to air travel. This guy in Milwaukee, however, has managed to keep his joke running for all of 27 years and has yet to be dragged over the coals.
62-year-old artist Mark Gubin is in the unenviable position of having planes fly over his art studio every day, leading to him to have a laugh at their expense. Huffington Post reports:
…he noticed planes traveling to and from Mitchell International Airport fairly low over his art studio. So he grabbed a roller and some white paint and wrote “Welcome To Cleveland” in large letters on his roof.
The thing is, Gubin lives in Milwaukee…
“It was all tongue-in-cheek, just for fun. Living in the world is not a dress rehearsal. You better have fun with it.”
Good idea but I don’t think it would work in Cape Town, most of the inbound travellers are too busy marvelling at the mountain to notice someone’s roof. Maybe in Jozi though, if they could see through the smog of course.
