Most bread brands will happily tell you about all the essential vitamins and irons found in their wheaty bellies, but I don’t suspect we’ll see Blue Ribbon shouting from the rafters about this latest discovery.
A customer got slightly more than they bargained for when the loaf of bread they purchased from an informal shop in Cape Town contained a healthy serving of heroin and dagga. Premier Foods, the company responsible for making Blue Ribbon, have launched a full investigation into the matter. Health24 reports:
“We are deeply concerned that a packet of Blue Ribbon Bread has been used to hide these drugs and that a member of the public had to experience such distress as a result,” said Premier Group Marketing Executive Siobhan O’Sullivan in an emailed response to Health24.
“Premier is working with the police to do everything possible to ensure those responsible are caught and brought to justice,” he said.
The mother who purchased the bread only discovered the hidden stash when she began making sandwiches for her children. Just think how popular they could have been at school if she hadn’t noticed? Imagine this scenario:
‘Oh no I’ve got peanut butter again, what about you little Johnny?’
‘My mom was kind enough to load my lunch with some scag and the devil’s lettuce’
Kids erupt with excitement.
Back in my day the naughtiest thing I ever saw go through a loaf of bread was a bottle of purple methylated spirits. If you think the mother was angry wait until the drug dealers find out.
