Ah, men and face moisturiser. That’s a newish combination. The rise of the metrosexual male, if you look at evolution, is but a mere pin-prick in time. But, slowly, surely, and with some clever branding and packaging from brands, it’s now deemed alright for your man to hydrate his skin.
Let’s be honest and admit that once they are hooked on good skin-care, it is much, much easier to get them booked in for a facial. This shouldn’t be as taboo as it is – you and I both know the incredible benefits of a facial once a month (or more often if you can) – so as soon as we get the ball rolling and you guys involved, the less of an awkward conversation it will be when Brad asks John why his skin is glowing.
Also, gentlemen, let’s reiterate that everyone, male and female, has a a face, and that said face will get sun spots, wrinkles and frown lines, and will need a good exfoliation once a week. Faces are faces and skin is skin, whether you have a beard or not.
So, men, let’s give you a little run down on how to give you more confidence in the workplace, love and in life:
A reminder – Skin, Body & Health Renewal treatments are suited to both men and women. Guys, you would be surprised at how much your skin will benefit from rejuvenating treatments. You do not have to be scared, or think Skin, Body & Health Renewal‘s services and products are only for women.
Do you want to look after your skin to maintain youthfulness and stay ahead in the workplace when competing with younger, new employees? Do you frown a lot from stress? Maybe you need a spot of Botox… It’s going to ensure you remain confident in your presentation, without constantly looking angry, serious or confrontational due to years of stress. Do we even need to use more persuading?
Maybe just a little push?
We spoke to Dr Xen, one of Skin, Body & Health Renewal‘s doctors, about changing trends.
Are you seeing more male patients wanting aesthetic treatments? Why do you think this is?
The male market is growing at a rapid rate. Men are realizing what the benefits are and also that the correct treatment done by expert hands can only enhance. Men are also more keen to learn about these treatments which eliminates the taboo factor we saw previously.
What are the most popular aesthetic treatments for men?
I do a lot of male Botulinum Toxin (anti-wrinkle injections) and dermal filler treatments, but the common treatments are quite vast. From laser hair removal to monthly superficial peels with laser that doesn’t require downtime.
Is there a global trend regarding aesthetic treatments for men?
Men are currently where woman were a few years ago. They are testing the waters. The biggest shift is in the consciousness of decent skincare in combination with preventative treatments like Botox/Dysport and light resurfacing treatments. So the international trend is more the shift in approach rather than a specific treatment, in my opinion. Men will arrive at our clinics to “see what can be done” more than asking for a specific treatment, which is more common amongst female clients.
Is South Africa on a par with international trends?
I would say we are ahead of the international trend in many respects. Our botox and filler techniques are at least on par. We are a conservative people. We prefer the natural look. The person whose treatments are clearly visible, has been ill treated in our view. Those mackerel lips, as an example. The number of people that prefer that look is a lot less than in Hollywood. I always say that anyone that’s looking amazing after 35 is having something done! South African Aesthetic Centres have become very good at COMBINING different treatments for a certain concern where the international market still focusses on a specific treatment.
What are men looking for when they want an aesthetic treatment?
Discretion and a very natural look. I must say that men are also very keen on prevention. It’s a normal human trait to want to look your best. I believe in enhancing the good in any given client and being subtle about it.
See? Skin, Body & Health Renewal is on your side. They want the best for you too. I’d suggest you give it a go. We won’t tell.
