Those of us lucky enough to live in the Mother City (or visit in December for the less fortunate) will generally have come across a dolphin having a thrash around in the surf. Those on boards trying to catch their own waves might suffer a serious skrik when they first spot that fin but I guess all’s well that ends well.
These lucky Cape Town locals got more than they bargained for on a fishing trip out near Robben Island, watching in awe as their boat was surrounded by a massive pod of the underwater mammals. Here’s Robbie Ragless recounting the story to EWN:
“We go fishing quite often in that area… we often see a lot of wildlife out there but nothing as big as this”…
Ragless said the pod appeared out of nowhere around midday.
“And then we just saw the frenzy on the horizon and didn’t know it was coming straight for us and caught ourselves right in the middle of it, which was quite cool.
The fishermen enjoyed five minutes with the pod and later saw a whale. You guys up there in the Big Smoke – put that in your pipe…
