I’ve stayed in my fair share of run-down hovels around the world, which makes having a snoop around TripAdvisor’s ‘World’s Best Hotel For 2015’ all the more enjoyable.
The popular travel website crowned Gili Lankanfushi in the Maldives the winner of the prestigious title. The 45 private villas are all built over the waters of the coral island of Lankanfushi with this below from Metro:
Each thatched luxury villa has a sundeck with daybeds, a roof terrace and a stunning bathroom with outdoor private shower that overlooks the lagoon.
If you get bored of lolling around in your hammock above the crystal clear waters, or sipping cocktails in the glass-bottomed bar, you can always visit the overwater spa, or the outdoor cinema room.
I don’t know what kind of animal is going to get tired of relaxing in the hammock but for the more adventurous there’s deep-sea fishing and scuba-diving.
So how much is living in the life of luxury going to cost you? A quick poke around the end of June saw the cheapest price come in at around the $1100 (R14 000) mark. You could always cut your losses, enjoy luxury much closer to home and book a uniquely African experience.
